When Jake refused, they harassed Jake’s brother, Billy, and Billy’s family in order to convince Jake to play. He succumbed and ended up winning. The loser, a high roller named George, insulted Jake’s mother and Jake responded by shooting him in the foot, igniting a gunfight in which the game’s money vanished.
